What’s the driver behind all the hard work you do?
It’s important to keep the reason for the hustle in mind and not get lost in the busyness.
My 12 year old son recently brought this to my attention one evening after dinner when he said, “So Mum, I guess you got done working 8 to 5 so you could work 24/7.”
Ouch. He’s very perceptive.
I do put in work hours late at night. I also struggle with taking time to relax despite knowing the value of it. When I do take time to meditate, take a yoga class, or a walk in nature or with a friend, I’m better for having done it.
Last evening my ‘why’ was put to the test.
There was a local networking event scheduled at the same time as my son’s ski team awards. I could not be in both places at once.
I met my friend at the networking event early to give her a few of my cards and a pep talk. Then darted out just as it was beginning. I confess, I was secretly relieved that the introvert in me wasn’t going to stick around and TALK TO STRANGERS!
Before I left, I overheard one of the organizers mention something about an interesting future event idea. I was able to chat with her and give her my card directly, hoping it was an instance of being in the right place at the right time.
Then my son and I headed to his awards. He may be among the last of the skiers to cross the finish line at each meet, but he’s my boy and I choose to show up for him. He’s already talking about skiing next year, which friends might join the team, and what spring sport he’ll choose. I’m here for whatever he decides.
That’s My Why. I want to show up for my kids and I am willing to work hard to make that happen.
A few weeks ago
I was scraping my kitchen floor to prepare for new tile. He came in for a snack and said “You’re the hardest working person I know.” It’s funny. I think that about my mom too. I do work hard and am proud that he sees that. And I am so very grateful to be able to fit my work into the nooks and crannies of my day to allow for me to show up for my boys, tend to my health, and be there for my family.
I am passionate about helping you grow your businesses. I love hearing about your why. That’s when you light up, talking about why you work so hard at this thing you love. I’m here for that.
